Local Athletics has received a significant boost thanks to a Local Sport Infrastructure Grant awarded to Manningham Council.
The $250,000 funding boost will upgrade lighting at the much in demand Rieschiecks Reserve in Doncaster East.
Member for Eastern Metropolitan Region Sonja Terpstra MP is delighted to see this injection of funds into the region to support athletics and other sports, extend the use of the Reserve and promote sport for women and girls.
The new floodlighting means that twilight training can occur, and that the environment will be well-lit and safe for the community. The Tom Kelly Athletics Track and hammer throw area of the Reserve will be upgraded as part of an extensive upgrade.
The upgrades will directly benefit local athletics clubs, youth athletics and local schools who utilise the facilities for district and zone athletics competitions.
The project is one of 100 to benefit from more than $30 million via the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
This investment also recognises the overwhelming demand for shovel-ready community sports infrastructure across Victoria and includes additional funding provided through the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
Ms. Terpstra acknowledges the work of Manningham Council and for its commitment and financial contribution to the project.
