Work is underway to find out what Victorians want from the first ever train between Melbourne and Tullamarine Airport as the Andrews Labor Government continues to plan for the Melbourne Airport Rail project.
Now that the route between Sunshine and the CBD has been confirmed, we’re launching the next round of community engagement on Airport Rail. Community feedback will play a vital role in shaping and influencing key elements of the project that will deliver trains travelling every 10 minutes between a new station at the airport and the heart of Melbourne’s CBD in less than 30 minutes via Sunshine and the Metro Tunnel.
Rail Projects Victoria is launching feedback in two virtual formats at http://consultationspace.com/MAR/
– accessible to communities right across Victoria, whether they work, live or frequently travel along the project route. An interactive information room provides key information on the project’s benefits, timelines and route in an online, interactive format accessible in several languages, and an online survey will allow people to provide feedback that will help the project team better understand the community’s views and needs as the project progresses. Both the information session and survey will be open until February 2021, giving everyone plenty of time to get involved.
A total of $10 billion has been committed by the Commonwealth and Victorian governments to get on with the job of building the massive Melbourne Airport Rail project, which will support up to 8,000 jobs across a broad range of disciplines.
Construction will begin in 2022, with a target opening date for Melbourne Airport Rail services of 2029 – subject to relevant Victorian and Federal planning, environmental and other government approvals.
