Decriminalising Sex Work

The Sex Work Decriminalisation Bill 2021 has passed the Victorian Parliament, enshrining in law, recognition and protections for sex workers that every other worker in Victoria already has.

Every worker in this State deserves to feel safe at work, and these reforms recognise sex work as real work.

The new laws will commence in May this year. The new Act retains all of the vital protections against criminal activity (including sex trafficking, child related offences, and coercion) from the Sex Work Act 1994 but it goes further to reduce stigma and remove discrimination and to ensuring better access to health and legal services.
