Opening of Mooroolbark Community House

Mooroolbark locals will have a new dynamic hub of activity, creativity and support at the Mooroolbark Community House.

Member for North-Eastern Metropolitan Sonja Terpstra today official opened Mooroolbark Community House.

The centre will be an integral community hub for years to come. It will support locals who are interested in arts and culture, performances, taking part in a community workshops, or simply connecting with others in a welcoming environment.

Mooroolbark Community House will offer a broad range of programs tailored to the community’s needs, including:

  • strengthening support and connections for Mooroolbark’s migrant population
  • facilitating discussions about local food security challenges and building new programs including cooking classes and community lunches
  • wellbeing programs including walking groups, meditation and information sessions
  • a wide range of interest-based programs including history chats and art classes.

Neighbourhood houses are treasured local centres where community members can truly connect with one another.

That’s why the Allan Labor Government continues to invest more than $43 million every year through the Neighbourhood House Coordination Program and supports more than 400 neighbourhood houses across the state.

Sonja Terpstra acknowledged the partnership with the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group and Yarra Ranges Council, and thanked community members, volunteers and partners who have played a part in making the newest community house a reality.

Quotes attributable to Member for North-Eastern Metropolitan Sonja Terpstra

I’m proud to open the Mooroolbark community house on behalf of the Allan Labor Government, to continue to support this community to come together and build even stronger bonds.

People often say “it takes a village”, and this community truly exemplifies that spirit in its togetherness and sense of community that makes Mooroolbark such a great place to live.
